Denver’s Premier Facial Cosmetic and Oral/Maxillofacial Surgeon
Recognized as one of the leading and most respected cosmetic surgeons and oral surgeons in Denver, Colorado, Dr. Robinson finds much satisfaction in kindly and honestly caring for patients in need. Through his life he is motivated, “To repair, renew, and rekindle hope.”
His patients range from the cosmetic surgery patient desiring an authentic renewing of his or her appearance through a facelift or rhinoplasty, for example, or a more satisfying contour through liposuction or abdominoplasty. And with patience and empathy, he is pleased to help the patient with serious facial pain obtain relief through TMJ surgery.
He also is committed to guiding patients through the process of having orthognathic (jaw) surgery because of facial deformities. These needs may be due to cleft lips and/or palates, growth deformities, and other craniofacial syndromes, such as Apert’s, Treacher-Collins, and Pierre-Robin. This same jaw surgery allows him to offer hope to patients with obstructive sleep apnea (OSA); to help them breathe with greater ease, aimed at relieving them of the need for Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP).
Randolph C. Robinson, MD, DDS, FAACS has practiced in Denver since 1992. He is grateful for his mentors who have both challenged and encouraged him masterfully to use the tools of surgical ‘arts,’ and to be a confident, creative advocate for his patients when needed. In these two decades he has cared for many patients with cosmetic and oral and maxillofacial surgery needs. He is board certified by the American Board of Cosmetic Surgery and the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. Dr. Robinson is also a Fellow of the American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery.
Dr. Robinson attended the University of Missouri-Columbia for a Bachelor of Arts degree in Biology. Consistent with a trend for facial surgeons in the United States and Europe, he then obtained both a Dental Degree and a Medical Degree at the University of Missouri-Kansas City. Next, he completed eight years of surgical training, ultimately including two years of general surgery. In his final year of residency in Kansas City, he was selected by house staff and medical students from all specialties as Resident of the Year. Lastly, he completed a one-year fellowship in craniofacial and plastic surgery. This fellowship was with Paul L. Tessier, MD, the world’s ‘Father of Craniofacial Surgery’ who first helped many of the war-wounded with severe needs for facial reconstructive surgeries, then practiced at the Clinique Belvediere in Paris, France.

The Innovator
Dr. Robinson did research, invented, and had patented devices related to bone-lengthening and bone screw delivery (patent pending). These devices are aimed to correct deformities when facial or extremity bone lengths are deficient. Plus, the bone screw delivery system makes surgery more efficient and reduces errors in bone fixation.
The Instructor
He is actively involved in training surgery residents at Denver Health Medical Center. He teaches on cosmetic and reconstructive surgery internationally and participates in the William Arnett Surgery Foundation. He is also a reviewer for articles submitted to the Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.
The Humanitarian

Face the Challenge, Inc. (FTC) is a non-profit organization established in 1993 by Dr. Robinson and his wife, Ginger H. Robinson, BSN, RN, a former cardiac and critical care nurse. It exists to show the compassion of Christ by providing free facial surgeries for those most in need in developing countries. Their 30+ teams and associates have provided over 1100 surgeries in Costa Rica, Bolivia, Vietnam, and China. As circumstances allowed, Dr. Robinson also provided his services free of charge for patients brought to Denver from Bolivia, Mexico, the Navajo Nation, Mongolia, Kenya, Kyrgyzstan, the Philippines, Pennsylvania (a hit-and-run victim of a drunk driver), and domestic abuse victims and tumor patients. His primary pro bono efforts, however, remain with his travels abroad with the FTC teams. www.facethechallenge.org See “For the Record.”

What Does an Oral Surgeon Do?
Whenever a dental issue involves surgery, an oral surgeon should be consulted for effective treatment. Your dentist and oral surgeon must work together to determine whether surgery is right for you. However, your oral surgeon is the one who decides which procedure is appropriate.
Oral Surgeon Explained: An oral surgeon is the surgical specialist of the dental profession. As an expert on functional and aesthetic aspects of the facial structure, an oral surgeon diagnoses and treats conditions of the mouth, jaws, teeth and face. An oral surgeon also provides safe outpatient anesthesia to his or her patients.
Oral Surgeon’s Training And Credentials: Oral surgeons complete four years of dental school and additional four years of surgical residency training. During the residency program, residents obtain training in several medical fields, including emergency medicine, internal medicine, general surgery, otolaryngology, plastic surgery, and anesthesia. A lengthy training in anesthesia is required to complete an oral surgeon’s training program. Students are well educated on the use of anesthesia and how to safely deliver anesthesia and then monitor patients after anesthetic treatments.
Conditions Treated With Oral Surgery: An oral surgeon removes impacted and damaged teeth and provides in-office anesthesia services. In collaboration with a restorative or cosmetic dentist who designs restorations, an oral surgeon often helps with the planning and placement of tooth implants. They can reconstruct bone where it’s required for implant placement and, modify gum tissue to produce an attractive appearance. These specialists also treat facial trauma, set fractured jaw and reconnect severed nerves. They also treat facial injuries involving the cheek, jaws, forehead, nasal bones, eye sockets, and the oral tissues. Oral surgeons also treat infections of the salivary glands, oral cavity, neck and jaw.
Procedures That Are Typically Performed: Orthognathic surgery is performed when teeth don’t fit with jaws and/or jaws don’t seem to meet correctly. Bone grafting is used to repair implant sites with inadequate bone structure resulting from previous injuries, extractions or gum disease. Other procedure typically performed by oral surgeons include Sinus Lift Procedure, Ridge Expansion, Pre-Prosthetic Surgery and Cleft Lip Surgery.
Considerations: An oral surgeon provides an essential service in the maintenance of oral health. When functional dental issues, such as keeping teeth, treating trauma-related damage, overcoming congenital growth issues and controlling serious oral disease, supersede esthetics, an oral surgeon is the appropriate dental specialist that you need to consult with.
